Jalisco Invests US$123M in Sustainable Mobility
To strengthen connectivity, the government of Jalisco is expanding public transportation coverage and improving mobility conditions through investments in a sustainable mobility model aligned with international electric mobility standards, directly benefiting residents' quality of life, according to an official state report.
The strategy involved an investment of US$122.9 million to acquire 203 vehicles, including trains, electric buses, and conventional buses, to strengthen transportation services for the millions of passengers who use the systems operated by the Electric Train System (SITEUR) each year.
With these investments, SITEUR has implemented strategic projects to improve connectivity across the state. These include the launch of Light Rail Line 4, which has transported eight million passengers; Line 5 (Macro Airport), which recorded three million trips in its first five months; and Puerto Vallarta's electric mobility system, which has transported 500,000 passengers.
Other initiatives include a free electric shuttle service at the airport, which has provided 348,000 rides; the strengthening of 11 feeder routes serving Mi Transporte Light Rail; and the Guadalajara te lleva program, which has provided free minibus transportation to 311,000 residents of the Huentitán area in Guadalajara.
With these new projects, SITEUR reached an unprecedented milestone in Jalisco's urban mobility system, recording more than 16.2 million trips in August 2026. This represented a 10.2% increase compared with the 14.7 million trips recorded during the same month in 2025.
Alternative sustainable transportation options have also been expanded through the growth and electrification of Mi Bici, which added 1,000 electric bicycles, 100 new electrified stations, and the transfer of 85 conventional stations.
Through these initiatives, the Jalisco state government reaffirmed its commitment to providing modern, healthy, safe, and sustainable transportation services throughout the state, the corresponding agency stated.
