Three years after entering the Mexican market, KIA Motors announced that it had surpassed the 200,000 units sold in the country, placing it in fifth in the domestic sales ranking with a 6.7% market share.

The Korean automaker revealed in a statement that it maintains an average sale of 7,000 units per month, a figure supported by the most recent report of the Mexican Association of Auto Dealers (AMDA) which indicates that during June the company sold 7,353 vehicles.

KIA sold 45,468 units during the first semester, proportionally below this year’s goal, which is to sell 100,000 vehicles.

The company began commercial operations in Mexico on July 1, 2015, ten months before production began at its Pesqueria, Nuevo Leon plant with the manufacture of the Forte model, while production of the Rio model began in January 2017. Last August the plant also started producing the Accent model of its sister company Hyundai.

According to its own estimates, during the third quarter of the year, KIA will produce its vehicle number 500,000 at its Nuevo Leon plant. Of these vehicles, the company has exported approximately 73%.
