Martinrea Expands Its Plant in Guanajuato
Martinrea International has invested US$50 million to expand its plant in Silao, Guanajuato, with the aim of developing its automotive manufacturing capabilities, as well as incorporating new production processes and creating 30 new jobs. The reinvestment is expected to strengthen the operation, which has grown from 53 employees in 2012 to a current workforce of 596 workers.
The expansion will consist of a 3,000-metric-ton press, recognized as one of the highest-capacity machines in Latin America used for stamping automotive metal components. The expansion will include a roll forming process and new cells designated for various production processes within the complex.}
Rob Wildeboer, co-founder and executive chairman of the Board of Directors of Martinrea International, acknowledged that Mexico is home to the company’s largest operational presence worldwide, with 15 facilities in five states and approximately 8,000 employees. The executive reaffirmed the company’s long-term strategy in Guanajuato and highlighted competitiveness, stability, and the workforce as key factors for maintaining operations in the region.
The Martinrea expansion is one of the 81 investment projects recorded during the first two years of the Guanajuato state government, representing US$6.5 billion and 20,747 committed jobs across 16 municipalities. The projects come from 14 countries and are part of sectors such as the automotive industry, new technologies, agribusiness, pharmaceuticals, energy, and textiles.
