Mexico & Canada: Alliance to fortify the USMCA

Goldy Hyder, president of the Business Council of Canada, revealed that the Canadian private sector—together with Mexico’s—is promoting the “3T Plan,” a joint strategy that calls for a strictly trilateral agreement, timely negotiations, and a tariff-free market. The business leader emphasized that alignment between the two countries is key to providing certainty for long-term investments.
The Canadian position holds that regional competitiveness against blocs such as Asia or Europe depends on Mexico, the United States, and Canada remaining united within the trade agreement.
Hyder stated that the political tensions of recent years ultimately brought Mexico and Canada closer together within the trade bloc. The businessman highlighted that this cooperation is reflected in a busy institutional agenda, including recent meetings with Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum and regular meetings with Foreign Minister Alicia Barcena.
Finally, Hyder maintained that the trade agreement has been successful for the entire region, including the United States, where it helps sustain approximately 14 million jobs.
