Ministry of Economy ensures that GPO meets standards

The Ministry of Economy (SE) continues to oversee strategic investment projects to ensure they meet the highest international standards in industrial safety, environmental management, and social responsibility. Among these is the ammonia production complex being developed by Gas y Petroquimica de Occidente (GPO) in Topolobampo, Sinaloa, which the Mexican government considers a priority project.
The agency noted that the investment aims to strengthen the country’s capacity to produce strategic inputs such as ammonia, reduce dependence on imports, and contribute to the development of the nation’s petrochemical industry.
The Ministry of Economy stated that the project is part of a strategy to strengthen national production capacity for essential inputs for the agri-food sector.
The complex will reduce external dependence on ammonia and fertilizers, while strengthening the competitiveness of the Mexican agricultural sector and contributing to greater stability in the supply of these products.
Given the increase in international demand and the difficulties various countries face in securing fertilizer supplies, investments of this kind reinforce Mexico’s position as a producer of strategic inputs for agriculture and industrial development.
