Negotiations with the US on the USMCA begin

Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon confirmed that formal talks with the United States regarding the USMCA review are set to begin. Ebrard noted that following the meetings in Mexico, the Mexican delegation will travel to Washington for a second round of talks.
The Mexican position will revolve around a central argument based on the fact that Mexico and the United States need to compete as a region against other economies in the world, particularly in sectors where both countries have a high dependence on external suppliers.
The official anticipated that the negotiations will not conclude quickly, given that the USMCA covers issues as varied as digital trade, intellectual property, labor and environmental provisions, financial and customs matters, as well as tariffs.
Regarding Canada, he noted that progress has already been made in bilateral talks and that the United States is expected to begin discussions with the Canadian government in the near future, with the aim of eventually moving toward trilateral meetings.
