Despite a small price increase for the 2019 year model, the Nissan Versa Sedan is still the most affordable new car in the U.S. market. Nissan announced last week a starting Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of US$ 12,360 for the base model equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission, that’s nearly US$ 1,000 cheaper than the Chevy Spark, which starts at US$ 13,220.
The Versa Sedan was upgraded in mid-2018 with the addition of standard RearView Monitor and an upgraded audio system. The new audio system includes a 7.0-inch color touchscreen, Streaming audio via Bluetooth, Siri Eyes Free, AM/FM audio system with four speakers and USB connection port for iPod and other compatible devices plus an Aux- in port.
An optional SV Special Edition package is available for US$ 800 which includes 15-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, Fog lights and front fascia chrome accents, Leather-wrapped steering wheel and Piano Black console lid, Special Edition emblem, Nissan Intelligent Key with Push Button Start, Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer System and Easy Fill Tire Alert.
The package also includes the NissanConnectSM infotainment system, featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM Satellite Radio (subscription required), Bluetooth Hands-free Phone System and Hands-free Text Messaging.
The 2019 Versa Sedan is offered in three grade levels and two transmission choices: the Versa Sedan 1.6 S 5MT for US$ 12,360, the 1.6 S Plus Xtronic for U$ 14,500 and the Versa Sedan 1.6 SV Xtronic for US$ 15,990. Prices do not include a mandatory US$ 895 destination charge.
All 2019 Versa Sedan models are equipped with a 109-horsepower 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine with a range of fuel efficiency-enhancing technologies.
The available Xtronic transmission utilizes an auxiliary gearbox using planetary gearing, helping enhance efficiency through new-generation D-mode step shift programming. Fuel economy with the Xtronic transmission is rated at 31 miles per gallon (mpg) in the city, 39 mpg on highway and 34 mpg combined.
A couple months ago, Nissan added a rearview camera in order to comply with a federal rule mandating such feature in all vehicles built after May 1.
The Nissan Versa for the North American market is sourced from the automaker A1 assembly plant in Aguascalientes, Central Mexico.
