Swedish safety systems manufacturer readies US$120 million expansion in Tijuana

Baja California state authorities announced that a Swedish company, "a world leader in automotive safety components and systems," will invest US$120 million to expand its two manufacturing plants in the border city of Tijuana.

Governor Francisco Vega de Lamadrid said in a statement last week that the company will carry out the expansion through the next four years, a time frame in which more than 200 people will be added to the 3,500-strong workforce already in the company.

Although the official omitted the name of the company, it is worth mentioning that Autoliv, the Swedish manufacturer of security systems–specifically air bags, seat belts and steering wheels–has two manufacturing plants in that city.

Other Autoliv production facilities are located in Lerma, State of Mexico; Queretaro and Matamoros, Tamaulipas.
