Walmart invests US$500 million in robotic warehouse in Silao
SILAO, GTO - Walmart began construction of a distribution center in Silao, Guanajuato, in which it will invest approximately US$500 million.
The new center will serve more than 600 stores and clubs in Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Michoacán, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas and Zacatecas.
Ignacio CAride, CEO and Director of Walmarft de México y Centroamérica said that the upcoming opening of this distribution center in Guanajuato reiterates the company's commitment to the state, as well as to automation and simplification.
“Customers and partners will save money,” he said at the groundbreaking event.
The new distribution center will feature a robotic technology platform, powered by artificial intelligence.
“This distribution center will become one with the highest levels of automation in all of Latin America,” said Gastón Wainstein, Senior Vice President of Real Estate Development and Supply Chain for Walmart de México y Centroamérica.
He added that following a contract with Symbotic, a company dedicated to robotic warehouse automation, Walmart de México will incorporate the same technologies implemented in Walmart United States.
Walmart de México began operations in Guanajuato 29 years ago and currently has 143 stores and clubs in the state.
Nationwide, Walmart moves 1,500 cases per year to supply a total of 3,000 stores in Mexico.
