SONORA – Thanks to the “Guarantee Prices program”, the production of wheat increased 63% in Sonora, going from 250,000 tons harvested in the Fall-Winter 2017/2018 cycle, to 407,000 tons in the Fall-Winter 2018/2019 cycle. Said program is going through the middle of its operations with a dispersion of US$44 million corresponding to approximately 482,000 tons harvested in the states of Baja California, Sonora, Sinaloa, Chihuahua, Nuevo León; which represents the greatest incentive that has been given to wheat farmers in decades.  According to the Mexican Food Safety Agency (Segalmex), a spill of around US$87 million is expected, with a coverage of approximately 1 million tons during the Autumn-Winter 2018-2019 cycle.  It should be noted that based on August 2019 figures, the Fall-Winter 2018/2019 cycle expects to reach a wheat production of 1.4 million tons, 14.9% above the previous cycle.
