Rivulis opens new plant in Tijuana

TIJUANA, BC - The Israeli company Rivulis, dedicated to the production of irrigation systems, inaugurated a new plant in the city of Tijuana.

The governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda, explained that the company settled in the border city after an initial investment of US$190 million.

Avila Olmeda pointed out that agriculture in Baja California is a fundamental activity for economic and cultural development, highlighting the opening of the new plant.

“This plant represents economic spillover, employment generation and welfare, as well as a new development alternative for regional agriculture with an intelligent irrigation system in its purest and most natural form,” said the governor.

Currently, Rivulis works globally with more than 6,000 partners and 7,000 producers worldwide to provide comprehensive micro-irrigation solutions that cover from the individual producer to large plantations.

“The Rivulis plant in Tijuana is the largest in the world. The facility is 160 thousand square feet in size and houses 27 tape assembly lines, 5 film lines and has 60 thousand square feet of warehouse space,” noted Rivulis CEO Richard Klapholz.

In the medium term, the company projects an additional investment of US$115 million, to reach a total of US$305 million and generate between 600 and 800 jobs in the next 3 to 5 years.

Eris Meltzer, Vice Chairman of Rivulis' Board of Directors, said he was proud to have chosen Baja California as a location. In addition to the construction of the facility, he celebrated the collective spirit and effort of the entire Rivulis team.

With a global presence that includes 22 plants around the world and after having established a presence in Silao, Guanajuato, Rivulis will take advantage of the geographical advantages and human talent of Baja California to offer, at first, 180 jobs.
