Tequila exports to Canada increase

JALISCO – Canada is the fourth largest importer of tequila from Mexico, mainly from Jalisco, informed the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT), adding that at the end of May 2021, three million 134,281 liters of tequila were exported to said country, while last month, one million 772,827 liters of the beverage were exported.

By category, last year there were two million 589,678 liters of 100% agave and 546,901 liters of tequila. By class, white tequila is the favorite for Canadians, with one million 732,648 liters, followed by reposado (one million 9,785) and in third place, añejo (1,211 liters).

It is worth mentioning that last May, the government of Jalisco announced that together with the National Chamber of the Tequila Industry (CNIT), 13 tequila companies arrived in Quebec.

"The commercialization of beverages of this type can only be done through the Quebec Liquor Corporation (SAQ, for its French acronym), which is the Canadian government institution whose objective is to offer a wide range of quality products within the spirits sector as a public service of the province of Quebec", added the CNIT.

The companies that will be able to be found in Québec, starting in 2022 are: Tequila El Circulo, Tequila El Mexicano, Casa Legacía, Tequila Armadillo, Tequila Casa Pecados, Tequilas del Señor, among others.
