Toyota aims to increase sales in Mexico by 2% during 2018
After a year of slowdown in sales in the Mexican market, Toyota anticipates that in 2018 sales will reach 107,000 units, which would represent a growth close to 2% compared to 2017, said Tom Sullivan, president of Toyota Motor Sales de Mexico in an interview to Milenio.
Toyota ended 2017 with sales of 105,464 units, which meant a growth of 0.5% compared to 2016 and remained the fourth best-selling brand in the Mexican market by volume. For 2018, the Japanese automaker plans to exceed the customers’ expectations with the incursion of two new models, the hybrid vehicle Prius C and the C-HR compact SUV.
Guillermo Diaz, director of operations of Toyota Motor Sales de Mexico, said that with the introduction of these two new vehicles the Japanese firm will feature 18 models in its offer for Mexico and with the arrival of C-HR will enter the mini SUV segment, the which has a great acceptance in the market.
Diaz stressed that since Toyota launched the hybrid Prius in Mexico, back in 2010, 17,000 units have been placed. “With Prius C in Mexico, we will continue to chart the path to increase the demand for sustainable energy vehicles in the country,” he added.
As for the Prius C, the expectation of sales for the first year is more than 3,500 units, since Mexico is considered among the 3 most attractive markets for this model in the world.
